Lennoxville City Pledges $18,950 for the Transformation and Management of Queen Square

During the Plenary Committee Meeting of the Borough of Lennoxville on February 27th, a significant announcement regarding the future of Queen Square was made. André Blais, the director of the City of Lennoxville, revealed plans to transform Queen Square into an urban space on private land at the corner of Queen and Samuel Gratham streets. This initiative, led by Entreprendre Sherbrooke, aims to replace the longstanding Lennoxville Street Festival with ongoing animation and management activities. The Lennoxville town has pledged financial support of $18,950 for the year 2024 to facilitate this transformation. However, formalizing the utilization of the private land is subject to a written agreement between Entreprendre Sherbrooke and the property owners. City councillors emphasized the importance of maintaining Queen Square s appeal to citizens and visitors while supporting local businesses downtown.

Sherbrooke city council calls for 30 km/h speed limit in urban areas

Amidst divisions, the City Council of Sherbrooke engaged in a heated debate over the adoption of a resolution on Tuesday night, February 21st. The resolution requested Quebec to amend the Highway Safety Code, proposing a default speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour in urban areas, unless otherwise indicated. Despite some councillors favoring a compromise of a 40 kilometers per hour limit, the resolution advocating for 30 kilometers per hour prevailed. Efforts to table or remove the resolution from the agenda were unsuccessful, leading to its adoption with a vote of 9 in favor and 6 against.The resolution now moves forward, potentially reshaping the city s road safety regulations.
